The Fulbright Fellowship Program was established in 1946 by Senator William J. Fulbright. Sponsored by the United States Department of State, the program aims to increase mutual understanding between the peoples of the United States and other countries through the exchange of persons, knowledge, and skills. Since its establishment, more than 47,000 students and scholars from the United States and 152,000 from other countries have benefited from the Fulbright experience. |
In India, USIEF (United States-India Educational Foundation) promotes mutual understanding between the nationals of India and the nationals of the US through the educational exchange of outstanding scholars, professionals and students. Since its inception, USIEF has awarded approximately 15,000 Fulbright, Fulbright-Nehru, and other prestigious grants and scholarships in almost every academic discipline. |
| Tapping the talent of Fulbright students and scholars, USIEF holds dozens of academic or professional workshops each year. In addition to fellowship support, USIEF services include advising Indian citizens on higher education opportunities in the US. USIEF also consults with Indian and US universities interested in developing linkages and exchanges. |
