About the Dept.
The Sankalchand Patel College of Engineering (SPCE) established the Department of Computer Engineering in 1999. The Department of Computer Engineering offers undergraduate ‘Bachelor of Engineering’ degree that covers the entire spectrum of computing. It is a four year degree course affiliated to Gujarat Technological University of Ahmedabad, Gujarat with a total intake of 90 students.
Computer Engineering, one of the fastest growing engineering fields for the past few years, is a very broad discipline which addresses the relationship and interactions between software, hardware and information in solving real engineering problems. The “Bachelor of Computer Engineering” degree program has a two-part objective. The first is to provide students with a strong background in mathematics, physics, and engineering science. The second objective is to provide students with the skills necessary to be effective contributors in a quality-oriented, customer-focused environment. Courses throughout the program emphasize an open-ended, design-oriented approach to solving engineering problems. Teamwork, communication skills, an interdisciplinary approach to problem solving and a research attitude are some of the skills that the students develop. The students and the faculty are involved in R & D activities as a result of which numbers of papers are published in national & international conferences and journals. Also our staffs are continuously upgrading themselves by going for higher studies and learning new technologies.
The mission of the department is to achieve & maintain professional practices of Computer Engineering by offering undergraduate programs that encourage lifelong learning, foster teamwork and leadership, and promote creative discovery. This is accomplished by a commitment to the highest possible standards of quality in the areas of teaching, research, and service to the community & nation
The vision of the department is to continue to expand its role in the country as a provider of outstanding undergraduate and graduate education programs in computer engineering
Department’s major activities
Apart from regular teaching, the department is involved in following activities.
IT Support Services
Department provides new employee or student login ID and password to access Internet services.
Department assists students, faculty and staff to resolve hardware, software and connectivity issues
Department assists instructors on how to setup audio-visual equipment and instructional technology tools in the classroom
The IT department monitors all the computer systems within the college and maintains them on a regular basis and/or as needed. In addition, all institute computers are loaded with anti-virus software to make sure each system is running smoothly.
The department maintains all the college networks (LAN and WAN) with its highly skilled technicians. All of the areas within the college are covered by wireless access points. The access information can be received from the department upon request.
Common Access Computers
The computers in Central Computing Center (CCC) and library are available for free access to faculty and students. Printing facilities is also available upon request, free of cost.
